Wema Bank, the custodian of Nigeria’s first fully digital bank, ALAT, revealed its women proposition – Sara By Wema – at the 2019 Songversation with Aramide. The event was a night of conversation and music which took place on March 29th, at Terra Kulture in commemoration of the International Women’s Day.
Sara By Wema is designed to bring women together, educate and support them to reach for financial independence. The proposition will leverage Wema Bank’s array of products designed to support women to achieve both their business and personal goals.
Sara by Wema gives access to benefits such as low-interest business loans, free SME toolkit, business advisory services, personal development, and business management resources, and access to high-interest savings plans and is exclusive to women of all ages and socioeconomic background.
The event which was powered by Wema Bank in partnership with brands such as Mouka Foam, LIRS and MTV Base did not only thrill guests with good music, it also celebrated women who have done well in their different professional fields and have, in their own ways, given back to society.
Inspiring women such as Kemi Onabanjo, management consultant and blogger; Omoyemi Akerele, an icon in Nigeria’s fashion industry and artistic director of the Lagos Fashion and Design Week (LFDW); Oghenekaro Omu, founder of Sanitary Aid for Nigerian Girls (S.A.N.G),; and Temie Giwa-Tubosun, founder of Lifebank Nigeria, were honoured for their individual works in making our society better.

The audience was delighted by the outstanding performances of Aramide and other artistes such as Praiz, Ric Hassani, Sir Dauda, GoodGirl LA, Banke, Temmie Ovwasa, Temilayo and many more, setting a perfect atmosphere to launch such a promising proposition for women – Sara by Wema.
Celebrities such as Adekunle Gold, Praiz, Ric Hassani, Falz, Bez Idakula, Niniola, Sika Osei, Kenny Saint Best, Essence and more also graced the occasion.
Duranice Pace’s Story and Song Sends Steve Harvey to Tears
The oldest member of Atlanta-based gospel group the Anointed Pace SistersDuranice Pace, shared an emotional story about the adversity she faced in life on the talk show Steve.
Pace performed with her eight sisters and released five albums between 1992 and 2009. During those years, she faced many hardships, including having part of her vocal chords removed after she was fed rat poisoning
“They said [I’d] never talk again,” the singer told show host Steve Harvey. “But the man upstairs said, ‘You gon’ sing again.’”
She also revealed she had thyroid cancer that was thought to be life-threatening. “They gave me three years to live, and March 28 would be 11 years ago.”
Pace said God kept her alive to be able to meet Harvey. “God kept me alive to see you, sir, and I’m just glad to be here. I can go to heaven now. It don’t take much for me.”
In the midst of the conversation, the comedian became choked up as he reflected on his own life, which included having to tell doctors to remove his mother from life support.
“You come in here today, this is just a ”Put Me On” segment,” Harvey said. “Never heard about your story and said, ‘Well, we’ll give her a chance,’ but I ain’t know you [were] going to come in here and do all this. Now you got me all jacked up.”
Pace sang on the spot about how the actor is a positive force in many peoples life. “He loves to let people smile / Make people laugh that ain’t laugh in years / Make you feel like living again / That’s Mr. Steve Harvey,” she belted out.
He told the singer, “You think I’m helping you, but you[‘re] really helping me.”
Later in the show, the gospel singer gave an emotional performance, before Harvey revealed that he would be buying her a car to help with her financial troubles.
